PRESENTATION OF THE NEW CONSORTIUM OF PROTECTION OF BALSAMIC VINEGAR OF MODENA

On Monday 9th December 2013 was officialised the foundation of “The Consortium of Protection of Balsamic Vinegar of Modena”.

Presentation of the new Consortium took place near the Chamber of Commerce in Modena at the presence of its President Maurizio Torreggiani, the Vice-president of AICIG and Manager of the Consortium Grana Padano Stefano Berni, the President of the Consortium Filiera Aceto Balsamico di Modena Sabrina Federzoni, the President of the Consortium Aceto Balsamico di Modena Mariangela Grosoli, the Manager of AICIG Piermaria Saccani, Roberta Chiarini form the General Direction of Agriculture of Emilia Romagna Region and Alessandra Di Arrigo form MIPAAF. The new-born Consortium, which has 50 associates, represents over 98% of the whole production, has named the new Administration as first formal action.

“The Consortium of Protection of Balsamic Vinegar of Modena has two missions – commented the new President Mr Berni – the guardianship and the guarantee of income to all the enterprises involved in the production of Balsamic Vinegar of Modena”.

A PDO and PGI product can exist only if we know how to valorise raw materials before and then its process of transformation. This is the founding element for the UE which activated the system of certified products.

The Board of directors will spend all its energies in order to help the new Consortium to operate at its best, thanks to the enthusiasm of everybody.

Sector data places Balsamic Vinegar of Modena to the top of ranking for PDO and PGI Italian products and for  the Italian agrobusiness in the world: the produced volume is higher than 90 million litres with a quote of export which is around 90%, the value of market is about the 600 million Euro.

“We could not wait any longer – commented Mariangela Grosoli – times were rights to take our own responsibilities and not to waste an heritage which history and  our families gave us”.

In this historical moment, we manufacturers had the responsibility to find an agreement for protecting this economy. We succeeded in finding a settlement, among those people who have great companies as well as smaller local business, that advantages a territory and a product that brings a positive economy to the families.” Thanks to this operation that concretizes the union of the two existing Consortia, the fourth pole of the Italian food for value and the first one for exports, was born. On January 20th 2014, the Office of the Alimentary and Forest Agricultural Politics has recognized, according to the art. 14, paragraph 15, of the law December 21st 1999, the new association as “Consortium of Protection of Balsamic Vinegar of Modena.
